Elite’s Splendid 70% Dark Chocolate Bars Ginger & Coffee

עלית שוקולד ספלנדיד בטעמים ג'ינג'ר וקפה
I feel like I say this way too often on this blog but I will say it yet again, I’m a self proclaimed dark-chocoholic! So naturally I was curious to try something from Elite’s new bunch of 70% Cocoa Solids Flavored Chocolate Bars. They are available in a few flavors including ginger, wild berries, coffee and orange plus one with no added flavor. A part of me wanted to try all of them but I “controlled” myself and only bought two. The ginger one sounded the most unique and intriguing to me and I thought the coffee flavored bar would be the one my friend, who was meant to stop by that weekend, would most likely enjoy so those are the two I picked.

Achla's Zucchini Squash & Techina Salad + Coupon

    - קוביות קישואים וטחינה אחלה טעמי השוק של שטראוס
With Pesach behind us and Yom Ha'atzmaut aka “Mangal/BBQ Day” right ahead of us, it didn’t surprise me to see that Achla has come out with two new techina based salads for Israelis to enjoy with this year’s Yom Ha'atzmaut Mangal. The first salad is a Cubed Zucchini Squash Salad topped with a Layer of White Techina and the second has Spiced Chickpeas under a layer of Techina.

Of the two options the one with zucchini squash seemed more creative and interesting to me. After reading a positive review about it on a Hebrew website I decided that although I’m not a big fan of such mass-produced salads I’d give this a try and see if I was as impressed as that reviewer was.

Pepperidge Farm’s Captiva Brownie & Nantucket Dark-Chocolate Cookies

עוגיות שוקולד צ'יפס בטעם שוקולד מריר פפרידג' פארם
Two of Pepperidge Farm’s cookies that have been on the market in other parts of the world for a few years are now also available here in Israel. The two cookies in question are;
Pepperidge Farm’s Captiva Soft Baked Dark-Chocolate Brownie Cookies and Pepperidge Farm’s Double Chocolate Nantucket Dark-Chocolate Chunk Cookies.

Since they are not “new to the world” there are already English language reviews for them on line, aside from which, many of you may have tasted them by now, so I won’t write a full review for either of them, just a quick post (and Bottom Line) to tell you they are now also available here in Israel.

Milky's Whip Cream & Chocolate Spoons

הקצפת של מילקי עם כפיות משוקולד
Strauss Milky has a new gimmick on the market. It’s their whip cream paired with two milk-chocolate spoons.

You may remember that last spring I wrote about their whipped cream but that time it was sold with a top container of chocolate syrup to pour over the whip cream. This time the chocolate syrup was replaced with milk-chocolate spoons.

McDonald’s Kosher for Pesach Bun

לחמניה מקדונלדס כשר לפסח
After I told you about Aroma’s Pesach Sandwich yesterday I wasn’t planning on posting any more this week but when I ended up at the Jerusalem Central Bus Station yesterday I got to taste McDonald’s Kosher for Pesach Bun. I debated writing a review about it because I don’t know how many of the McDonald’s around the country are kosher, of the kosher ones I don’t know how many are open for Pesach selling a Kosher for Pesach roll. Not only that, it could be each branch has its own Kosher for Pesach roll so the bun you find in the branch near you may taste different to what they had at the Jerusalem Central Bus Station branch. Then I figured I may as well just write a quick post in case there are enough people it would interest. So here goes.

Aroma's Pesach Sandwich

כריך ארומה לפסח
Friday, Erev Pesach, was one of those days that my list of things to take care of outside the house was extremely long. Even though I got an early start at some point in the afternoon, when I was still out running around, I realized I had not put anything in my mouth all day. I was very hungry and needed to eat something if I wanted the energy to continue getting things done. Since I had just cleaned out my bag for Pesach I had removed all the protein bars I normally keep in there for just such an occasion. The closest and quickest option was to grab a sandwich from a Kosher for Pesach Aroma counter near me.

A quick look at the Pesach menu taught me that most of their regular sandwiches, if not all of them, were available and being sold on a special Kosher for Pesach roll. This is not the first year some Aroma cafés are open for Pesach and have Kosher for Pesach rolls but I had not tasted their Pesach rolls in past years so they were new to me.

Shufersal’s Reduced Fat Potato Chips

שופרסל צ'יפס תפוחי אדמה מופחת שומן
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while (firstly thanks that’s really sweet of you:) but more to the point) you may know by now that my “go to” salty snack is pretzels. This week being Pesach, pretzels are not an option. When I read about Shufersal’s Reduced Fat Potato Chips I thought Pesach would be the perfect time to try them. So I picked up a bag one day as I was doing a pre-Holiday supermarket shopping run and I saved them to try after Pesach began. That’s why you are only getting this review now and not before the Holiday, but these are not a strictly Pesach product they should be on the shelf throughout the year.

I like but don’t love regular potato chips. I don’t find them crunchy enough and they are usually to oily for me. That all changed when a few months back a friend randomly mentioned how much she liked Kettle Cooked Reduced Fat Potato Chips. Somehow I had never tried Kettle Cooked potato chips. I checked the local supermarkets but didn’t find any. Finally I found a Herr's brand bag at a 24 hour convenience store that has lots of imported goods. Yes it was WAY over priced but that’s what you get for shopping at a 24 hour convenience store. I couldn’t resist so I got a bag. I was not sorry I bought them, I really enjoyed how overly crunchy they were and how much less oil they had in them but the price prevented me from buying them on a regular basis.

Tara’s Thinly Sliced 9% Edam Cheese + Coupons

טרה גבינה צהובה אדם דק דק
Tara Dairy took a page out of the cold cut meat company’s book (over the past year or so all three local, major cold cut companies came out with a very thinly sliced cold cuts/deli meats line) Tara translated that to their yellow cheeses and now have a “Dak Dak” = very thinly sliced line of cheeses.

The Tara Dak Dak cheeses are available in 28% fat, 22% fat and 9% fat Edam cheese. I decided to try the low 9% fat one.

קליק חטיפי גלידה
As I was cleaning out the freezer, just now, I found this Klik Ice Cream Snack and I realized that I never wrote the blog post about it. So here goes…

Klik Chocolate Snacks and Strauss Ice Cream have teamed up to make a Klik snack pack inspired ice cream snack. It’s one of Strauss Ice Creams new treats in their 2012 line up.

Kapulsky's Pesach Chocolate Mousse Cake

קפולסקי עוגת מוס שוקולד לפסח
Given that I didn’t enjoy the Kapulsky cookies or cakes I have reviewed in the past I didn’t want to spend money on their Kosher for Pesach Mousse Cake only to find out that I did not enjoy eating it /serving it to friends and family. Therefore I wasn’t going to review this product at all but when I was at Mega Bul the other day I bumped into a close friend’s husband at the checkout counter and he was holding the Kapulsky Chocolate Mousse Cake. I warned him of my past experiences with this brand and told him he may want to pick something else. He said he needed a Kosher for Pesach non-dairy cake for a party they were having Saturday night, this was the only cake they had that fit the bill so he decided to “take his chances” but he appreciated the fair warning.

When my friend called me after the party the first thing she said was “Gosh, that cake you warned my husband about was kinda awful”. I asked for details so that I can give you her review, here is what she told me.
