Carmit Chewy Chocolate Caramel Toffees

Carmit, who gave us Sour Taffies now, has a new sugar-free toffee on the market from their "free" (Chofshi חופשי) line of products, which I was really excited to try. It’s a chocolate flavored caramel toffee that is coated in bittersweet chocolate.

I've mentioned way to many times, on this blog, how much I love bittersweet chocolate so when I saw this 21 calorie sugar-free toffee that is coated in bittersweet chocolate there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to try it.

The toffee was soft, chewy and gooey; everything a good toffee should be.The bittersweet chocolate coating was perfect, just the right amount of rich chocolate flavor to add an interesting dimension to the toffee. A single toffee was rich enough for me to curb the sweet craving I was having.

All was good and fine until the aftertaste kicked in, and it was kind of yuck! I was so disappointed. As soon as I got all sticky toffee off my teeth I couldn't help but notice the aftertaste.  I think it may have been the artificial sweeteners that I was tasting, but whatever it was it ruined the toffee for me.

I would rather have a nice quality rich bittersweet chocolate than this 21 calorie toffee and have to deal with this unpleasant aftertaste.

Bottom Line: I think it was a great idea on Carmit's part to try and develop a low-calorie, rich, chocolaty, sugar-free toffee. They almost got it right with this Chewy Chocolate Caramel Toffee coated in Bittersweet Chocolate, but the aftertaste was just too disappointing for me.

I would rather have one of these other treats when I get a bittersweet chocolate craving. Elite's Dark Chocolate Egozi Bar, Muller's Yogurt with Dark-Chocolate Shavings, Nature Valley's Oats 'N Dark Chocolate Crunchy Granola Bar or rather the Nature Valley Dark Chocolate soft version, which actually is now my absolute favorite granola/cereal bar.

  1. According to @Foodimentary today, June 16 is National Fudge Day. I guess your post kinda celebrates a sugar free version today lol ;)

  3. Tasted this today and I agree with you ... The aftertaste that lingers kinda makes these not as enjoyable as it could be...

  4. HI Anonymous
Thanks for your comment- major bummer that the aftertaste has to ruin such a great "idea" of a toffee:(

  5. I bought a bag and there is only one left. I am going to buy more. I happen to like them. I am a diabetic and have found only hard sugar free candies. i was thrilled to find these for a change. I don't seem to taste the after taste. Maybe it's because I can only eat sugar free and therefore i am used to the sweetener's taste. I hope they continue making them and come out with other flavors too.

  6. Very cool! So glad you enjoyed them! It would be nice if they came out with more flavors. If I see a press release about any new flavors from them or find them on the shelf I will try post about them too:)
