The
first flavor to hit me was a rich balsamic-like vinegar taste. It was a richer deeper vinegar flavor than most salt ‘n vinegar chips I’ve had. It did make
me think of a specific salt ‘n vinegar crisps snack I tasted, and enjoyed, when I
was in the UK. I just can’t remember the brand name of those crisps, it was too
long ago.
After a few bites of these Apropo Vinegar
& Spice, the spicy flavor really kicked in. The initial strong, yet pleasant,
vinegar flavor “calmed down” a bit and I could taste the spiciness at full blast. I thought
it added a nice and enjoyable extra layer of flavor that was more interesting to
me than salt; like in salt ‘n vinegar flavored snacks.
This
time, as opposed to the Italian flavor Apropo, which I wrote about last June, I
understand the name Osem chose for the snack.
Bottom
Line: I was pleasantly surprised how much I actually liked these Apropo Vinegar
& Spice. I can’t say they will become a “go to snack” for me , because I don’t
think they will, they are slight too strong for me to eat them regularly. But every once in a while when I want something different I
can see myself picking up a pack of these Apropo Vinegar
& Spice and mixing them with a bag of regular/plain Apropo just to
add some excitement to the bowl.
BTW: 2 Hebrew reviews of this product I read online did not speak highly of this snack at all. One thought it was too spicy and didn't have enough vinegar/חמוץ .I absolutely disagree with that, like I said I though both flavors had fair representation.
The other reviewer said that she, as someone who really loves the original Apropo snack, wasn't crazy about this flavor. She is just going to stick with the original Apropo; for her it's a case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
