Milky Chocolate Pudding with Crunchy Wafers

In their continuous effort to come up with something NEW and DIFFERENT Milky Strauss has a new gimmick on the market just in time for Shavuot; the “Dairy Holiday”. It’s called Milky Wafer Crunch. With each Milky chocolate pudding topped with their signature whipped cream you get 2 (individually wrapped) triangle shaped crunchy wafers.

The idea is similar to the Milky's Whip Cream & Chocolate Spoons, I wrote about in April of 2012. There you had a chocolate spoon to use as a utensil to eat the whip cream, this time you are meant to use the wafer to scoop up the pudding and whip cream and then eat the wafer at the end.

Strauss Milky White-Chocolate Pudding

Strauss added a new flavor to their ever-so-popular Milky pudding line. This time they went for a white-chocolate flavor.

As with other Milky products this white-chocolate pudding also comes topped with their signature whipped-cream (which by the way, I don't love because I find it leaves an unpleasant shortening-like film in my mouth, but that’s nothing new.) If you like their whip-cream in any of their other 10 Milky puddings you will like it this time as well.

Tara Moo's Banana Punch Pudding + Coupon

Both Tara Moo and Strauss Milky have a new pink colored pudding on the market. Milky’s is a strawberry flavored pudding whereas Moo’s is Banana Punch flavored. I wasn’t going to try either of them mainly because I didn’t think I would like them; I’m not a fan of fruit flavored puddings. Then I found a 2+1 coupon for the Moo puddings and decided to try the vanilla pudding**. 

Since I was in the store with a six year old I asked her if she would like to try the Banana Punch Pudding, she said yes, so I got one of the Banana Punch as my “free” pudding of the three.

Carlo Summer/Freezer Chocolate Mousse + Coupon

Just in time for summer Tnuva has a new Chocolate Mousse in their Carlo line of puddings. This new mousse can be enjoyed either as a regular mousse, kept in the refrigerator, or frozen as a sort of ice cream mousse. Since it comes two in a pack I put one in the freezer and left one in the refrigerator so I can try it both ways.

The Carlo line of puddings is geared more toward children so I don’t really know what their other puddings taste like but the idea of a frozen chocolate mousse intrigued me and I wanted to try it.

Tnuva 0% Fat Chocolate & Coconut Pudding

Tnuva added a Chocolate & Coconut flavored pudding to their line of fat free puddings.

They had a little "samples booth" at the Megabul supermarket, I was in the other day, so I got to taste this new pudding.

Since I did not buy the pudding I couldn't take a photo of it for this post. The only online photo I found was blocked from being used (you can see it here), so I scanned the coupon that they were handing out at the booth just to show you what this product looks like, sorry it is not a printable coupon. 

Osem's Bittersweet Belgian Chocolate Flavored Instant Pudding

Hello my name is Daniela and I'm a bittersweet chocolate addict…. Well maybe not an addict, but don’t all addicts say they aren’t addicted?? Regardless, if you read this blog on a regular basis, firstly THANK YOU! I really appreciate my loyal readers. Secondly, you may have gathered by now that I really really like high quality, rich bittersweet chocolate. Therefore I was thrilled to see a press release announcing Osem's New Bittersweet Belgian Chocolate Flavored Pudding.

I actually saw the press release a few weeks ago but I could not seem to find it in any of my local supermarkets.  Finally, the other day I saw it on the shelf and was excited to get it home and try it. I made sure to buy some milk and 38% whipping cream, as per the packages instructions.

When I opened the instant powder package I could immediately smell the rich chocolate flavor. I poured the cold cup of milk (200 ml.) and the carton of cold whipping cream (250ml) into a bowl and added the pudding powder. I then whipped it together with the electric mixer. It was very easy and quick and within a few moments I had a very rich creamy chocolate pudding ready to serve.


The taste of this Bittersweet Belgian Chocolate Pudding was a bit richer and more "bittersweet" than Osem's regular chocolate pudding.


I was a drop disappointed that the pudding didn’t have a more powerful bittersweet chocolate taste. Maybe because of the milk and whip cream the bittersweet chocolate flavor got somewhat lost. I kind of thought the bittersweet taste became secondary to the overall chocolate milk flavor.

It could be it was just a matter of expectation, I was anticipating a very strong bittersweet chocolate flavor that, for me, just wasn’t there. I did enjoy the pudding but, as I mentioned, I thought it was only slightly different to the original Osem chocolate pudding. It's possible that someone who's not as enthusiastic about bittersweet chocolate as I am, may very well think this tastes extremely bittersweet and way different to that of Osems regular instant chocolate pudding.

Perhaps, had I prepared it with water as opposed to milk I would have gotten a more bittersweet chocolate flavor but, for the purposes of this post I wanted to follow the directions on the box "to a T", so I can give you a proper review.


Osem's Bittersweet Belgian Chocolate Flavored Instant Pudding has no artificial food coloring and no preservatives added. There is no cooking involved in preparing this pudding.

Bottom Line: I liked Osem's Bittersweet Belgian Chocolate Flavored Instant Pudding just as much as I like their original chocolate pudding. I didn’t think this new version was amazing or extraordinary but it was a touch more bittersweet. I hoped the bittersweet chocolate flavor would have been stronger and richer, but it wasn't. If it stays on the shelf, yes it’s a limited edition product, I will probably try it again, either alone prepared with water and not milk, or as an icing for a cake/filling for a pie. If after that my opinion changes, I'll be sure to add an update to this post.

Tnuva's Chocolate-Banana Diet Pudding

As I've mentioned in my review of Danone's Cranberry Granola Yogurt and again in my review of Tnuva's Cottage Cheese Snack, Israel is blessed to be the "Land of Milk and Honey" so it's not surprising that one of the most competitive "shelves" in the Israeli supermarket is the milk product refrigerators.

Yes, I have another new pudding to tell you about! This time it’s a diet pudding. Since Strauss's Milky & Dani puddings as well as the Tara's Moo pudding were not diet puddings, I figured why not review Tnuva's New 0% Fat Chocolate-Banana Diet Pudding.

I clearly tasted both the chocolate and the banana flavors in this pudding. At first, neither one of the flavors were overpowering but as I was eating it the banana seemed to become the stronger flavor. I think I would have liked the chocolate flavor to be richer than it was.

What really bothered me most about Tnuva's Chocolate-Banana Diet Pudding was the strong taste of the artificial sweetener. I know most of the diet puddings I've tasted, here in Israel, have an artificial aftertaste but this time it seemed to be much more intense than other diet puddings and I really did not like it.

It could be if this pudding is used in baking or mixed with other ingredients to make a more elaborate dessert the added components would balance out the artificial taste and it would be enjoyable. Then again, often if the original item is not tasty, anything you make with it doesn't really come out that good. I've heard many good chefs say if you want a successful dish start with good quality ingredients. For example; don’t use "cheap wine" and expect a "rich" flavor in your final product, so maybe using this pudding in a dessert is not the best idea.

  

Bottom Line: At first Tnuva's Diet Chocolate-Banana Pudding was refreshing but as I ate it the artificial sweetener taste became too strong and I did not enjoy it. I think it will prevent me from wanting to buy this pudding again.

Tara's "Moo" Pudding Kosher for Pesach

By now most of you have likely tasted Tara's "Moo" pudding and have formed an opinion as to which pudding you prefer Tara's Moo or Straus's Milky.

The reason I'm even posting about Tara's Moo puddings today is because they are now Kosher for Pesach with a Badatz Cholov Yisrael hechsher, whereas,  Straus's Milky is kitniyot.

So if you have not yet tried Tara's Moo pudding, I would say Pesach might be the perfect time to try it out.

They have 3 flavors available for Pesach; chocolate, chocolate-hazelnut and chocolate with chocolate heart shaped bits on top (to add in after opening). They all, of course, have whipped-cream in the container with the pudding.

    

All Moo products are made with Tara's 100% milk and have no preservatives.

Strauss Dairy Puddings "Spring Line"

Strauss Dairy officially launched its "spring line" of puddings; 2 new items and 2 re-launches of products that had been taken of the shelf and are now making a comeback.

I did not know that there are "seasonal lines" when it comes to milk products but, as I've mentioned before, the dairy market, here in Israel, is very competitive. Nothing they do should surprise me at this point

For the consumer this "war" has its pros and its cons but, for me, it constantly provides many products to review, so lets get started 

In the kids department we have a 4 container package of
Dani Pudding "Drink".

Well it's not really a drink, but it's intended to be "eaten" via a straw (that they provide in the package). It's the same popular, sweet, chocolate Dani pudding with a slight twist.

There is no allotted spot where you are meant to put the straw in but wherever I tried it worked without a problem.

The consistency of the pudding was somewhere between and pudding and a heavy milkshake, somewhat similar to that of Chocolate Leben, sold in the USA these days.

I found it easy to "eat" the Dani via a straw. I thought it would be less messy for a child to enjoy the Dani this way, but for a 2 1/2 year old it was a struggle to get the pudding through the straw. He got so frustrated and asked for a spoon. Since Dani is geared toward young children I'm surprised they made it too thick for a 2 1/2 year old to enjoy the Dani this way.

Bottom line: Depending on the age of the child, this may be a neater way to eat Dani, but I am not sure the original Dani is that much thicker. So this could just be a (partially unsuccessful) gimmick.

Next up is a Milky Black Orange Pudding

If you've read my Dark Chocolate Egozi post or the Dark Chocolate Fitness Bar review you may know by now that I prefer dark chocolate, so I like the "Milky Black" they sell.

This new one is meant to have orange flavor mixed in. (The package clearly says there is no real fruit in the milky). I say "meant to" because I did not taste the orange, that is, until I finished the pudding and there was an ever so slight orange after-taste, which I didn’t particularly enjoy. Granted I don't have the most developed palate in the world and I guess there are people that will taste the orange, but for me it was a bad version of "Milky Black" so I personally will give this a miss.

As with the Milky Black the container is not completely see-through. In this case the 3 colors on the package are not representative of what is actually in the container. You do not have a layer of orange at the bottom and the pudding is not as dark as the color on the container.  

Bottom line: I'll stick to the Milky Black without the orange flavor.

Milky Whip-Cream with Chocolate-Syrup (or Chocolate chip) Add-in

This was on the self a while ago and is now making a comeback, of sorts. I had not tried it back then so I did now.

By the time I got it home and opened, the whip-cream had completely fallen; all the air had gone out of it and the container looked half full (or half empty). There was even a small lump of inedible wipe-cream at the bottom.

I know there are many kids who only like the milky for the whip-cream, if that’s the case, then buy whip-cream or whip some up on your own and pour some chocolate syrup on top because paying 7 NIS for the small amount of whip-cream and chocolate-syrup (in a separate little container on top) you get here, is simply robbery!

Bottom Line: Major disappointment.

The final product is also a re-launch, this time of a classic Strauss pudding that has been off the shelf for about 10 years. The "Rosemary" Chocolate Pudding  "Ma'adan HaGolan" is now back.  

Bottom line: Nothing new here just a much requested comeback of a popular classic pudding.
