Yotvata Choco Chocolate Milk and Vanilla Milk Drinks

Yotvata Dairy, which is half owned by Strauss Dairy, came out with two new milk drinks for the summer of 2013. One they are calling Choco Chocolate and the second they called Vanilla. I tasted both flavors.
 

First I drank the Yotvata Choco Chocolate Milk drink which I got in the smaller 250 ml bottle (I did not see that size bottle for the vanilla drink I only found it in the 1 liter bottle). The reason they called it Choco Chocolate milk is because they supposedly added real chocolate to the drink and not just cocoa powder; or whatever they use to normally make chocolate milk. 

Grape Flavor Fuze Ice Tea

Fuze Tea Israel, which is owned by Coca-Cola Israel, has a new ice tea flavor on the local market. Actually I think this is their first new flavor since they changed their name from Nestea to Fuze Tea last May (as I wrote about in this blog post). Since Fuze Tea was the old Nestea all the flavors that the old Nestea had are available under the Fuze Tea name but now that they seem to be settled into their new name they are ready to come out with a new flavor.

Just by the way from what I gather, Fuze Tea Israel is not the same as Fuze Tea in other parts of the world. Here in Israel it really is the same exact product as the old Nestea was. They taste exactly the same whereas the new Nestea here in Israel tastes very different to me and I did not enjoy it. On the other hand, I have read and heard from friends in the USA and Europe that they hate Fuze Tea and it tastes nothing like the old Nestea.  So my conclusion is that Fuze Tea outside of Israel must not be the same product as the Fuze Tea made by Coca-Cola Israel and sold here.

I can’t say I ever remember tasting a grape flavored ice tea so I was curious to taste it. I thought it was refreshing and somewhat enjoyable but ever so slightly too sweet for me. Then again, I don’t really enjoy things that are even a drop too sweet. Since I think I’m not really the right person to go by regarding sweetness in many cases, I gave a glass of the Grape Fuze Ice Tea to my friend as well. She did not think it was too sweet whatsoever.

Ice Coffee Aroma with Crushed Cookies

I was with a friend at Aroma Café the other day and we saw a newer Ice Drink on the menu that we had never tried. It’s listed as Ice Aroma Cookies. According to the description its Aroma’s regular blended ice coffee with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies added in. (I didn’t write Oreos because I do not think they used “authentic” Oreos.) The ice drink looked a little odd with all the crushed cookies in it but from the description we thought it would be like a cookies ‘n cream coffee flavored ice cream, which we both love, so we were curious to try it.

Spring’s Vacation Destination Soft Drinks

In November I wrote about Spring's line of soft drinks called "Countries" because each soft drink was representative of a different country. Spring’s Summer Line of soft drinks sort of continues that theme. Since Summer is beach vacation time Spring put out four new soft drinks that are named after exotic beach vacation spots; Seychelles, Caribbean, Zanzibar and Maldives.

The soft drink named for Seychelles is a mango pineapple flavored drink. The one named after the Caribbean is banana and passion fruit flavored. 

For the first time Spring ice teas entered this “countries” line of drink and there are two ice teas to choose from; Zanzibar’s is a pineapple melon ice tea and the Maldives ice tea is simply called “tropical flavored”. I wanted to taste one of the ice teas and since I’m not a fan of pineapple flavored drinks I went for the Maldives Spring Tea.

Schweppes Lemon Carbonated Soft Drinks

In my review of PriGat’s Shakes I told you that I tasted a few new drinks recently so here’s another one of the new drinks I was referring to.

Schweppes has added four lemon-flavored carbonated soft drinks to their line of drinks. The new flavors are; Lemon Lime, Diet Lemon Lime, Lemonade and Pink Lemonade. I don’t think these are all that new to Schweppes. I think they have been (or still are sold) in other parts of the world. I even saw an online petition to bring back Schweppes Pink Lemonade but I’m not sure what country the person who started that petition is from. As far as I know, these lemon sodas are new to the local Israeli market. I guess the person who started that petition can now come here to Israel and buy as much as she wants.

PriGat's Pear Lychee & Pear Cherry Shakes

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac the summer officially begins here in the Northern Hemisphere this evening, but the weather in Israel was ultra hot this past week or so. It felt more like August then June and keeping hydrated was extremely important. For me there’s nothing like an ice cold cup of water to really quench my thrust but from time to time I do enjoy something like a juice or a soft drink just to "mix it up" a little. So recently I tasted a few new drinks that I plan on reviewing within the next few days. Today I'll write about the new flavors from PriGat’s Shake line of drinks. 

There are three new flavors in this line; Pineapple Banana, Pear Lychee and Pear Cherry. I’m not a fan of pineapple drinks so I skipped the Pineapple Banana and tried the other two.

Pri Niv Banana Based Drinks

Until I read a press release about these PriNiv Banana Based Drinks I had never noticed anything from PriNiv in any of the stores I frequent. 

Turns out they are a smaller company that have not really made it into the main supermarkets just yet.

Until now Priniv drinks were mainly sold at gas stations/highway rest shops and the like, which must be why I had yet to see them, but now the company is working hard to get their products into more major supermarkets .

Yotvata Cold Latte Zero Coffee + Coupon

Last August I told you about Yotvata's Cold Coffees now they have added a Sugar Free Latte to this line of coffee. They are calling it Latte Zero. My friend who enjoys coffee very much and actually helped me review Illy's Cans of Cold Cappuccino& Latte Macchiato coffees last June was coming over for a visit, I know that she much prefers her coffee, hot or cold, without sweetener of any kind so I thought she would be the perfect person to try this new Yotvata Cold Latte Zero and give me her review for this post.

The bottle says “Coffee beverage made with no added sugar or sweeteners, with milk, ultra-pasteurized, high caffeine content, low lactose.” It also has an “added vitamin D” symbol on the bottle. I found it interesting that they make this coffee with low lactose milk even though all the low lactose milks sold here are way more expensive than the regular bottles of milk on our store shelves. I think it’s nice that this is also suitable for people who need low lactose options.

I had the privilege of being invited to an Israeli Product of the Year Community event which took place last week. As a blogger who has written about the winners of the local Products Of the Year items, I was thrilled to be invited. Everything about the event was so well organized and ran so smoothly, it was such a pleasure and extremely enjoyable. I thought today I would share with you some of the details of the event.

Spring's Soft Drinks "Countries"

Spring's latest line of soft drinks was given the name "Countries" because each soft drink is "representative" of a different country. The three countries are Brazil, Thailand and India.

The Brazilian fruit drink is made of Apples and Caja Fruit. The one from Thailand has Banana, Pineapple and Coconut in it and the drink representing India is made of Peaches, Passion Fruit and Jackfruit.

I was debating which one I wanted to try. Having never been to any of these three countries, none of them brought back memories of a wonderful exotic vacation I was hoping to "escape into" via a glass of a fruit drink, so I went strictly by flavors.

Jump's Lightly Carbonated Peach Ice Tea

Tempo; one of the leading beverage companies here in Israel, have a new Jump product on the market that they're calling a "Lightly Carbonated Peach Ice Tea".

I may have mentioned in past reviews of say Schweppes and Kinley's Mandarin Drinks and Kinley's Pear-Apple Soft-Drink that I'm not a huge fan of carbonated drinks so I waited to taste this Jump Carbonated Ice Tea together with my friend so I can give you her opinion as well.  

Jump's Lightly Carbonated Peach Ice Tea comes in a tallish thin tin can. I think I mentioned in my review of Illy's Cold Coffees that I don’t love drinking out of tin cans, to me they somewhat affect the taste of the drink. Therefore I poured my ice tea into a glass, but my friend preferred to drink it from the tin.

When I handed the ice tea tin to my friend she mentioned that on her recent summer vacation in Europe she noticed a few such carbonated ice tea drinks.  She thinks it’s a trend of sorts that Tempo must be "copying" from Europe but she can't compare them because she didn’t actually taste any carbonated ice teas during her travels.

The first thing to hit me as I was pouring my ice tea into the cup was the strong inviting peach aroma I recognized from Jump's regular Peach Ice Tea.

Next I noticed quite a bit of carbonation so much so I thought it looked like a beer.

My friend enjoyed the drink VERY much and thought it was exactly what Tempo said it would be a "carbonated Jump peach ice tea". She liked the strong peach flavor and thought it had a nice sweet peach tea taste. She found it very refreshing and a change of pace from regular sodas or other ice teas she normally drinks.

I, on the other hand, really didn’t enjoy it. Firstly I'd say it was very sweet but almost all the ice teas I've tasted and reviewed (like say Nestea's Exotic Flavored Ice Tea with Green Tea and Vitaminchick Peach Ice-Tea) seemed too sweet to me.

More importantly, I thought it was far from lightly carbonated as they'd "promised" it would be. I just could not get passed the heavy carbonation.

I tasted more peach than ice tea, but I can't say that bothered me all that much.

Jump's Carbonated Peach Ice Tea has no colorants and no preservatives, but sugar is its second ingredient after water.

Bottom Line: Although I like peach flavored ice tea I didn’t enjoy it carbonated. Still, I give Tempo/Jump credit for trying something new, even if they are just copying something they saw overseas. My friend summed it up saying "if you enjoy carbonated drinks and you're looking for something a little different; this Carbonated Peach Ice Tea might be right up your alley".

Café Elite's Ice (Milkshake) Egozi Drink

A friend and I were out and about the other day when the heat got to us; we both needed something cold to cool us off. I went for a Lemon-Nana Ices (which I may review in a post some other day). My friend wanted a non-coffee blended ice milkshake drink.

We were not far from an Elite Café stand so I suggested that since summer is (sadly) coming to an end we should checked out Café Elite's limited edition summer Egozi Ice Milkshake Drink before they stop selling it. I had read that this Ice Milkshake Egozi Drink was one of the products that came about via the "My Strauss" campaign which I mentioned in my review of the White Chocolate Kif Kef Bar. Being a big fan of the Egozi bar and the newer Dark Chocolate Coated Egozi Bar my friend thought it was a great idea and we went to check it out.

The Egozi Ice Milkshake Drink is meant to be an ice milkshake version of a

deconstructed Egozi bar.

First thing to go into the cup was a generous amount of melted milk-chocolate. Followed by a few swirls of caramel syrup added to the sides of the cup (I actually hate when they do that because you see the syrup but it doesn’t really integrate into the drink and I think you don’t really get to taste it). The cup was then filled most of the way with their blended vanilla flavored ice milkshake. Next they added a bit of foamed milk and finally they sprinkled it with a few sugar coated chopped hazelnuts.

My friend kindly let me taste some of the drink. I liked the combination of the melted milk-chocolate together with the vanilla ice milkshake. I loved the sugar coated hazelnuts they sprinkled on top. I thought the nuts added so much to the drink and I actually wish they would have put more nuts on top than they did.

Not surprisingly I didn’t taste the caramel syrup but my friend said she did taste a hint of it as she came to the end of the drink.

We both thought the milk foam they added on top was a waste and it didn’t do anything to improve the iced drink in any way.

Had I not known it was meant to be a deconstructed Egozi bar ice milkshake drink, I don’t think I would have made the connection on my own but in actuality it did have all the components that an Egozi bar has.

Bottom Line Even though we liked the drink and we enjoyed both the melted milk-chocolate and the sugared hazelnut, I thought, as a whole, the drink was sweeter than it needed to be. My friend disagreed and said it was the perfect amount of sweetness. She pointed out that I often think food and drinks are sweeter than they should be; she might be right about that :)

All in all we both agreed that Café Elite's Ice Milkshake Egozi Drink was a nice treat but really it's just a glorified vanilla ice Milkshake which doesn't really resemble an Egozi bar but it gave Elite an excuse to hike up the price and charge way more than they should have for an ice vanilla milkshake drink.

Schweppes and Kinley's Mandarin Drinks

When I recently tasted and reviewed Fanta's new Lemonade together with my friend, he told me that the orange Fanta is one of his favorite sodas. We also talked about the differences between lemon and orange flavor in many other drinks, so when I saw that both Schweppes and Kinley have a new Mandarin flavored drink I thought I would invite him over for a "taste testing party".

This is the first of the "Schweppes Fruit" line of drinks that I have ever tasted, so I had no idea what to expect and I can't really compare it to any of their other flavors.

After my first sip I though "I really did not enjoy that at all!" Not because of the mandarin flavor, I just could not get past the "saltiness" of the drink.

My friend didn’t mind the saltiness as much as I did but he didn’t either love this drink. He said, for what it is; a fruit flavored carbonated water, he thought it lived up to being exactly that. He made sure to point out that if you're looking for a sweet orange soda he doesn't think this is the right choice for you.

Even though neither of us loved Schweppes's Fruit Mandarin Drink, we both thought it had a nice orange aroma and a good amount of mandarin flavor.

Bottom Line: My friend said "for me this drink was just "OK", I prefer sweet carbonated orange sodas and I'm still somewhat addicted to Fanta's Orange soda."

I'd have to admit that the Schweppes Fruit Mandarin Drink did grow on me, but it reconfirmed yet again that I don’t love heavily carbonated drinks. If and when I would grab a "fizzy" drink I would go for a lightly carbonated one, something closer to Sanpellegrino's Lemonade, that I recently reviewed.

Kinley's Mandarin Drink
The first noticeable difference between this Kinley drink and the Schweppes drink is the color. Even though both drinks are made from all natural food coloring and they both have more than 10% real fruit in them they still look quite different.  Kinley's is a yellow-orange whereas the Schweppes one is much more of a proper mandarin orange color.
 

The next major difference is that the Kinley drink is a diet drink, making it only 7 calories for 100 mL, whereas Schweppes's is 32 calories for 100mL and has sugar in it.

At first I thought that maybe the Kinley one was ever so slightly sweeter but when I tried to do a blind taste test, a few days later, I couldn't really tell which one was sweeter. I think my final conclusion was that they are equally sweet, but in fact neither of them is really all that sweet.   

The Kinley drink has a slightly more gentle carbonation and I prefer that, but the Schweppes one has a little more of a "tangy taste" and I kinda enjoy a more tangy drink. So for me they each have a pro and a con.
  

My friend said he didn’t love or hate the Kinley drink, for him it was "neither here nor there" he added, "if it was the only orange flavored drink on the table, I would drink it, but I don’t think I would go out and buy it on purpose".

 
Bottom Line: My friend said If he had to pick he would choose the Schweppes drink, simply because he thought the mandarin flavor was more authentic in that drink. I agree it has more of a mandarin taste, but for me the carbonation is a bigger deal ,so although I don’t think either of these will become a product I purchase regularly, if I had to pick between these two, I would likely go for the one that I thought was slightly more gently carbonated and somewhat less "salty"; the Kinley one.

Sanpellegrino's Sparkling Lemon Beverage from Concentrate

In the beginning of June I read a press release about Sanpellegrino's new summer drinks Limonata (Lemonade) and Aranciata (Orange), I really wanted to try them but I couldn't find the new drinks in any store, kiosk or restaurant that I checked. Last week I was picking up take-out at a restaurant and I noticed that they had Lemon Sanpellegrino in their refrigerator, since the "meal" I was buying allowed me to choose a free drink I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try this Lemonade.

I think I mentioned in my review of Fanta Lemonade and of the Lemon Alma Gum that I really like a very tart lemon flavor especially in lemonade drinks so I was really happy that this Sanpellegrino's Lemonade is quite sour and very close to the tart lemon flavor I like so much.

There was a slight aftertaste that bothered me at first, but I can't pin point exactly what it was or how to describe it. Maybe it was salt from the carbonation of the water?  Or maybe it was from lemon rind? I'm not sure, it doesn’t say there's lemon rind in the drink but it does contain 18% lemon juice and all natural flavorings. I really don’t know exactly what caused the slight after taste but on second taste it didn’t bother me all that much.

I don’t love carbonated drinks but the carbonation in this Lemon Sanpellegrino is quite gentle and I didn’t really mind it.

I love the fact that there's no sugar added to this lemonade, that’s a huge plus in my book. Another plus is the fact that there are no artificial flavorings in this drink.  

My main problem with Sanpellegrino's Lemonade is the price; a glass bottle with 200mL for 12 NIS is unbelievably ridiculous in my opinion. Yes I know it’s a restaurant price but still that is simply highway robbery. Even thought I enjoyed the drink it wasn’t so absolutely amazing that it would justify such a price. Had I not gotten the drink for "free", with my meal, I would not have spent 12 NIS to taste it, regardless of how curious I was.

Bottom Line: I really liked the tanginess of this Sanpellegrino Lemonade. I thought the carbonation was light and gentle. The fact that it doesn’t have sugar in it really made me happy but the price is simply outrageous and will sadly prevent me from purchasing it again.

Yotvata's Cold Coffees

Being that I am not a regular coffee drinker I wasn't going to review Yotvata's new line of cold coffees, even thought I was curious how it compared to Illy's Cold Coffee, which I recently reviewed. Then, a few days ago, I was at a breakfast event where they had Yotvat's new Latte as one of the options on the elaborate drinks buffet. This gave me the opportunity to try the coffee and also get the opinion of some coffee drinkers at my table.

Yotvata's new line has 3 coffees to choose from; Latte (mild), Macchiato (strong) and Cappuccino (coffee with added cocoa) as I mentioned, I tasted the Latte.

I actually enjoyed Yotvata's Latte more than Illy's Cold Cappuccino, most likely because this Latte is a more mild coffee, not being a regular coffee drinker I don’t really care for strong coffees. I did think there was quite a bit of milk in the Latte but that didn’t really bother me like it bothered most of the heavy coffee drinkers at my table. They all would have preferred to taste the Macchiato which is the stronger coffee in this Yotvata line.

Yotvata's Latte does have sugar added but I didn’t think was too overly sweet, whereas most of my friends who never add sweetener to their coffee thought it was too sweet but not way over done.

All that having been said, no one HATED the Latte but then again the regular coffee drinkers didn’t really consider it their "morning coffee" and I saw quite a few of them enjoying a hot coffee "made to their liking" before the event was over.

I am not 100% sure why there's a warning on the bottle saying "It's not advisable for pregnant women (and children under 12) to drink this Latte", the children under 12 part I understand, but I'm wondering why they wrote that pregnant women should avoid it. As far as I knew most studies show that it's ok to drink up to 3 cups of caffeine a day when you're pregnant. Maybe this one Latte has so much caffeine that is surpasses the limit, I don’t know? But I gotta say it didn’t seem strong enough to have all that much caffeine in it. So maybe it's not the caffeine that’s the issue but something else?

 Could it be the ultra pasteurized milk that’s the problem, I wonder? When I checked Google I saw a few places where they said ultra pasteurized milk is not advisable for anyone because of all the "good bacteria" and vitamins that get "cooked out" of the milk in the ultra pasteurizing process but I didn’t see any warning particularly regarding pregnancy so I still don’t know for sure why they have the warning on the bottle. But whatever the reason may be, it kinda of freaks me out when products have such warning. Usually such warnings keep me away from a product even if I'm not pregnant.

Oh by the way, they also had frozen Yotvata Ice Shoko(Cocoa) for the kids, but regardless of age, everyone who tried the frozen shoko seemed to really enjoy it.

Bottom Line: I thought Yotvata's Latte was an enjoyable enough "coffee flavored milk" but if you're looking for a cold coffee to give you a caffeine "wake me up" or you really enjoy the taste of strong coffee I don’t think this Yotvata Latte is the right choice for you.

Nestea's Exotic Flavored Ice Tea with Green Tea

Nestea has 2 new flavors on the shelf this summer. One is a Diet Apple with Green Tea and the other is being called Exotic Flavor with Green Tea. Both of the new ice teas are made practically with green tea and therefore have the many antioxidant benefits that green tea is known for.

If and when I want a hot drink I usually chose jasmine flavored green tea. I actually much prefer the taste of green tea to any other hot tea I have ever had. So I was happy to see these ice teas with green tea on the supermarket shelf.

I don’t particularly love the taste of apple in ice tea so I decided to try the "exotic" flavor, even though it sort of bothered me that they did not write which exotic fruits were used.

Even after I tasted the ice tea I still can't tell you what fruits were used to flavor this tea and "warrant" the name Exotic. I didn’t find it all that exotic but that may be a good thing because I often don’t enjoy thing that are too exotic.

Maybe it's just that I don’t have a well enough developed palate to pin point exactly what fruits they used to flavor this ice tea but to me it tasted very much like their popular peach flavored Nestea Ice Tea. I actually had one in my refrigerator so I did a little comparison. Yes there was a difference, mainly in the aftertaste but to me it wasn’t all that dramatic of a difference. The peach was a little bit of a more mild flavor and I thought it had a slightly less intense aftertaste. But I did not think the new Exotic Ice Tea with Green Tea "screamed" either green tea or exotic fruit flavor. It is possible that someone who doesn’t enjoy green tea may not agree with me and may really notice the green tea taste in this new ice tea.

The main issue I have with both the peach and this new exotic flavored ice tea is that they are way too sweet for me. I don’t know if the diet ones are less sweet but I would really like to taste these same Nestea Ice Teas with way less sugar. If Nestea really wants to join the "health trend" maybe flavored green teas with less/no sugar should be their next new item.

Bottom Line: I didn’t think that Nestea's Exotic Ice Tea with Green Tea was all that exotic but it was enjoyable enough.  If I had to choose between this Nestea with Green Tea Exotic Flavor and the Peach Flavored Nestea Ice Tea, I may choose the exotic flavored one simply because of the benefits I might get from the added green tea but on flavor alone I would rather the peach one.

Fanta Lemonade Soda

 As I mentioned in my review of Kinley's Pear-Apple Soft-Drink I have never been a huge fan of carbonated drinks so although I do like "lemon tangy" flavored things I wasn't going to review Fanta's new, limited edition, Lemonade Soda. Then my friend came over to watch a game, the other night, and he bought a bottle of this soda with him so we all had a chance to taste it. 

 I wasn’t so surprised that I didn’t love it; the truth is I didn’t hate it  either. I thought it tasted sort of similar to the orange flavored Fanta. I wonder though, had I not seen the label and known it was Fanta would I still have thought it tasted like Orange Fanta, very possibly not. I should mention that I did taste the lemon flavor, in this Lemonade Fanta, to some degree, but it was far from the tanginess I like in lemonade.

 

My friend who bought the bottle and really likes Orange Fanta didn't agree with me, he said it was very different to the Orange Fanta. He really didn't like this Lemonade Fanta at all. He said the Orange Fanta soda is sweeter and not as tangy. He decided that he will continue buying Orange Fanta soda and skip this Lemonade Fanta. (I have to add that I think this Lemonade Fanta is very sweet too but he's right in that it's somewhat tangier than the orange.)

Most of the others who came to watch the game didn't really care one way or the other about this Lemonade Fanta Soda. They didn’t love it or hate it and would rather drink beer or coke and not really touch the Lemonade Fanta at all.

As with the Orange Fanta this Lemonade Fanta is available in a small ball shaped bottle that Fanta is calling a "FBALL". It may be a cute gimmick but it seems sort of ridiculous that they're charging 5-7 NIS for this 250ml "FBALL". From the photos I think it looks like it would be kind of difficult to hold and drink from it but maybe you're not meant to drink it but rather throw it around and watch it "explode" once you open it, I don’t know, but I can imagine that’s what many kids or teens might end up doing with the "FBALL".

The Fanta Lemonade Soda has no preservatives and is made with all natural food colorings.

 

Bottom Line: This Lemonade Fanta Soda is being marketed as a "summer edition" it will be interesting to see if it stays on the self once autumn rolls around. I for one don't see myself ever buying it but if you enjoy sweet and very slightly tangy lemonade soda this might be the right choice for you.
